Duties of the County Treasurer (elected) include receipt, custody, and disbursement of all county monies and, as agent of the state, issuance of dog, hunting, and fishing licenses.  The office pays all bills on order from the Commissioners and must produce vouchers and records of transactions for the auditors at the end of each fiscal year and each month throughout the year. The Treasurer also serves as the Tax Claim Bureau for the County Commissioners.  The Tax Claim Bureau was created under guidelines established in Act 542 of 1947.  It provides for the Bureau to collect delinquent real estate taxes, give receipts and make distribution of the money received.

   The Huntingdon County Treasurer's Office received and disbursed $7,790,356.30 in General Fund monies for the year of 1999.  As agent for the state, they sold 440 fishing licenses; 19,410 hunting licenses (this includes 17,000 doe licenses); 173 temporary boat tags; 9,225 dog licenses; and 185 pistol permits.  In 1997, the Huntingdon County Treasurer's Office created dog-licensing outlets throughout the County, as follows:

   From January 1, 1999, until December 31, 1999, the Huntingdon County Tax Claim Bureau collected and distributed delinquent real estate taxes as follows:  $365,748.48 to the County; $1,614,024.20 to the six different school districts; and $183,743.84 to the boroughs and townships within the County, making a total of $2,163,516.52.
